THE EFFECT OF EXCESSIVE SODIUM-CONTAINING IRRIGATION WATERS ON SOIL INFILTRATION RATE

Due to increasing demand for limited water resources, the pressure on irrigation used in agricultural production is also increasing. One of alternative solutions meet needed use low-quality resources. However, these waters can cause serious problems environment, especially soil and plants, short, medium long term. The sodium concentration affects structure soil, infiltration rate hydraulic conductivity properties, as well negatively nutrient uptake plants. In this study, effect with excess content rate, which one important parameters design operation systems sustainable production, was researched. measured by double-ring infiltrometer method. four different Electrical Conductivity (ECi = 0.6 [control], 5, 10 15 dS m-1) Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) (1, 20, 40 50) were used. Cumulative values varied between 360-446 mm, a 9-19% reduction determined compared control treatments, depending ECi SAR ratios. steady-state treatments 24.5-36.5 mm h-1 decreased 24-34%. response increased EC water, rates cumulative soils decreased.
